A Patch is a software update to improve compatibility and/or address other software problems.
There are some official patches for Tomb Raider games like the Voodoo patch for Tomb Raider or Patch 52 for Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, as well as some fan made patches to improve compatibility with Operating Systems other than those printed on the box or to give the Level Editor new abilities like higher resolution textures.
