Thor's statue wielding Mjolnir, as seen in the gameplay trailer

Thor's Hammer, called Mjolnir (also Mjölnir or Mjöllnir) is a powerful weapon belonging to the Norse god Thor. Legend holds that he who wields the hammer has the power to smash mountains into valleys and the strength to destroy even the gods. For more than a thousand years it has existed only as a myth, until Lara sets out to find it.

To wield it, Thor needed a special pair of gauntlets that made him strong enough for its weight. Lara searches for these gauntlets in the Mediterranean. It is later revealed that she will also need Thor's Belt to get the hammer, possible to open a gate to Valhalla, where the hammer is located. The belt is found in Mexico.

Thailand's loading screen suggests that the only way to enter Helheim, the Underworld, is by using Mjolnir, Lara also states that she needs it to kill a god. [1] It is speculated whether this god referred to is Natla.

A giant representation of Thor's Hammer is seen in the original Tomb Raider, in St. Francis Folly, in a room dedicated to Thor. (In the remake, Tomb Raider Anniversary this room is dedicated to the Greek god Hephaestus.) The hammer can and, in order to complete the level, must be brought down by Lara. She needs to stand on a square below till it creaks and comes falling down. Upon hitting the square Lara stood on, it will make two movable stone blocks appear.
