XP (short for Experience) is a new concept to the Tomb Raider franchise first introduced in the reboot title Tomb Raider (2013). For certain actions - e.g. hunting - the player gains XP which in turn he can use to buy Skill Points which improve Lara's abilities.

Reception

There has been some concern regarding XP. Fans of the original games fear too many RPG elements have entered into the game, a fear aided by the fact that Square Enix is best known for their series of Final Fantasy RPGs. On the other hand many fans embraced the idea, that brings a a bit of customisability to the game that is more subtle than before. The media has generally been in favour of this new feature.
