You will meet Tigers in Tomb Raider 2 at the Great Wall in China and in Tomb Raider 3 in the India Section.
Tigers are only dangerous when they can reach you. Most of the time you will be able to find a rock nearby on which you can stand. There you will be safe and can use pistols. When you cannot find a place where you are safe from the tiger, use the shotgun to get rid of it quickly.
