The Scarab is an artefact found in the levels Obelisk of Khamoon and Sanctuary of the Scion in the original Tomb Raider.
In both levels the Scarab is used as a key. The first time it opens a door leading to the level Sanctuary of the Scion when placed on its receptacle on an obelisk alongside three other artefacts. The second time it opens a door leading to a passageway to the chamber with the last piece of the Scion.
