From Tomb Raider 3 and onward certain enemies and traps can infect Lara with poison, it will kill Lara if not treated with a medikit or crystal (in the PC Tomb Raider 3 ). Although it takes a long time.
In Tomb Raider 4 on it also makes your view strange, meaning judging gaps etc is harder.
