The Common Spike Trap (also known as Teeth Spikes) is a basic Trap, of the type Spike Trap, found throughout many of the Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Games. In the Tomb Raider Level Editor these are known as TEETH SPIKES.

Types of Spike Traps

or the walls.

By Orientation

Floor Spikes

Most often the common spike trap is found as a floor trap, where the spikes are simply protruding from the ground. These can be hidden, ready to shoot out when Lara steps onto the area.

Ceiling Spikes

In seldom cases these spikes can protrude from the ceiling. But a more common trap where spikes from above pose a danger is the Spike Ceiling, where a whole section of ceiling with spikes attached lowers down on Lara.

Wall Spikes

These spikes are attached to walls. A more common form is the Spike Wall, a whole wall section that moves.

Spike Tunnel

There are "tunnels" of spike traps where spikes come out of the floor, ceiling and walls. (Deadly when extended, else harmless.)

By Properties

Simple Spike Trap

There are simple spike traps where the spikes are obvious. In most cases Lara can walk through them. These mean instant death if Lara jumps or falls into them. They drain energy when Lara runs through them.

Hidden Spike Trap (Triggered)

There are spike traps where the spikes are hidden and shoot out of the floor when you step onto them. These are always deadly.

Interval Spike Trap

There are spike traps which retract and extend their spikes at certain intervals. These are deadly when extended, but otherwise they are harmless.

Spike Pit

The common spike trap can occasionally be found in form of a Spike Pit. In which case it is not uncommon that these are hidden underneath a Collapsible Floor.

Occurrence

In some cases, in the Classic Tomb Raider Games, to avoid getting hurt, Lara can walk through the spikes and emerge unscathed. But if she falls in the spikes, Lara will instantly die as the spikes impale her.

  • Tomb of the Ancients

Lara Croft: Relic Run

In Lara Croft: Relic Run, the floor spikes retract and extend in regular intervals. That doesn't mean however that it is safe to run through them. Running through or jumping into them is always deadly. The best method to conquer them is to either avoid them by changing lanes or by jumping over them with perfect timing.
