Lara's Doppelgänger is one of the characters in Tomb Raider Underworld. She was created by Jacqueline Natla as an update of the original Doppelgänger met in Tomb Raider /Tomb Raider Anniversary set out to follow an intricate plan and serve as Amanda Evert's aid.

Appearance and Abilities
Unlike the first doppelgänger, which was only able to mirror Lara's movements, this one is equipped with a mind of its own and has a more human-like appearance. It has been outfitted with skin, hair and its iris is even identical to Lara's, able to fool the iris scanner of the Croft Manor's vault. It resembles Lara almost perfectly. There are only minor differences in their appearance, for example a slight variations in hair colour and style. It can perfectly mimic human movements but is also able to call upon the Shadow Powers, superhuman abilities like high speed.

As we later learn the Doppelgänger falls under the same spell as the Thralls and can be controlled by whoever addresses it with the magical phrase "Okh Eshivar".

Outfit
* Leather waistcoat with zippers
* Leather pants with a double buckled belt and dual pistol leg holsters
* Black boots and black fingerless biker gloves

Story
Tomb Raider Underworld Main Storyline
The Doppelgänger's first objective was to retrieve Amanda Evert's Wraith Stone from Lara's vault in the Croft Manor. In the process she triggered an explosion that destroyed the manor and shot Alister Fletcher, who then died in Lara's arms.

For a moment during this break-in the doppelgänger fooled Zip, who then confronted Lara about her weird behaviour.
After having done this job for Amanda the Doppelgänger's allegiance shifts back to Jacqueline Natla as Amanda painfully learns in the Andaman Sea when she is thrown through the glass floor.

But its main objective was to stop and destroy Lara when she has helped Natla enough to get the Midgard Serpent running. This plan however fails due to Amanda Evert arriving at the scene, who then throws the Doppelgänger down a pit, towards the pool of Eitr.

Beneath the Ashes
In the Xbox 360 exclusive Add On Beneath the Ashes, which tells the story of Lara's quest for a mythical artefact located beneath Croft Manor, that offers the bearer the power to control the Thralls, Lara manages to utter the powerful phrase Okh Eshivar engraved in the artefact and thus control her Doppelgänger. The outcome of this turn of events is concluded in Lara's Shadow.

Lara's Shadow
Lara's Shadow will see the player taking control of the Doppelgänger. The story picks up where the Doppelgänger was thrown down a pit by Amanda. It has landed on a safe platform at the edge of the Eitr pool and is able to use its Shadow Powers to escape the pit and follow Lara. It however arrives after Lara's and Amanda's departure and finds the wounded Jacqueline Natla (who still survived after being hit by Mjolnir) near the destroyed Midgard Serpent. It helps Natla back to a control room of Atlantean design and then sets out to start up a machinery for Natla. She is then ordered to kill Lara. And after dispatching Lara, Natla orders the doppelgänger to "end your own life as well."

At this point the story jumps to the events of Beneath the Ashes, where Lara takes control over the doppelgänger by saying the phrase "Okh Eshivar". It becomes clear that Lara does not hold the doppelgänger responsible for Alister's death as it was just a puppet in Natla's foul game. Lara turns the tables by ordering the doppelgänger to go after Natla to torture and kill her and to not follow any more orders after this, thus freeing it from any master.

Amanda Evert was once a friend of Lara's. She plays an important role in Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Underworld.

Amanda and Lara were once exploring a ruined temple together, when they were attacked by a monster. Amanda activated a door-mechanism, which caused the monster to disappear, but also started the collapse of the temple. A huge rock buried Amanda's foot and she could not free herself. Lara managed to stop the door from closing for some time, but when Amanda couldn't free herself and the water rose over her head, Lara lost her strength and had to let go. Amanda presumably drowned, while Lara got away.

However, as Lara finds out in Kazakhstan, Amanda survived in the tomb in Peru, with the help of the Unknown Entity. Amanda returns into Lara's life as a formidable adversary determined to harness the power of Excalibur for herself. It is later revealed that Amanda indirectly caused the death of Lara's mother.

Unlockable Outfits
By beating the Ghana and Kasakhstan Time Trials two special Outfits, the Amanda Outfit and the Amanda, Winter Outfit, are unlocked. You can replay levels as Amanda this way. This explains, why Amanda can be seen in images, wearing part of Lara's gear. In this case it is just another Outfit for Lara and will speak with her regular voice, not with Amanda's. And if you are wearing one of the Amanda outfits, you can see Lara's hair in the shadow, not Amanda's haircut.

From the official site
On the outside, Amanda Evert was a graduate student of social anthropology; on the inside, she was an intense chronicler of the metaphysical. She believed wholeheartedly that the common notion of reality is nothing but a thin, drab layer pulled over the infinite truth of the soul. She studied every religious and mystical system in the world, past and present, and while still at university was already something of an expert on theology and mysticism. She had a pet theory that fragments of a single, long forgotten mystical belief system exist within the rites and rituals of shamanism, witchcraft and many religions. Her dream was to rediscover this supreme knowledge from the past and teach it to people so they could gain spiritual enlightenment. At the time it seemed more like a youthful dalliance than a true obsession; something Lara considered harmless. She was undoubtedly comfortable with exploring beyond the boundaries of scientific inquiry, but she was also a brilliant researcher who was still in touch with the modern world. She was young, a bit bookish, not too self-confident, and a bit of a hippy. Her relationship with Lara is typified by playful philosophical banter; they disagreed, but they crossed intellectual swords without becoming exasperated or angry at the others' firm viewpoint.

Then one day in Peru, while excavating a tomb Lara believed contained the last queen of Tiwanaku, her team of graduate students breeched a new room and all hell broke loose. Lara was the only one to return to the surface, where the team's structural engineer, Anaya Imanu, listened in horror to Lara's story of how a malevolent entity of some kind slaughtered everyone in the tomb, except for Lara and Amanda. But as the two tried to escape, Amanda set off a trap that sealed the room, brought down the roof, and she drowned.

Tomb Raider Underworld
Amanda makes a return in Tomb Raider Underworld, working with Jacqueline Natla, pursuing Lara who is trying to unite the pieces of Thor's hammer . In the end, Amanda helps Lara save the world by holding back Thralls with her Wraith Stone from Tomb Raider Legend.

While capturing Natla from her mortal prison that Lara has left her in the end of Tomb Raider Anniversary, only to imprison her once again. Natla, in the beginning had Amanda interested enough in Avalon to start searching for the pieces of Excalibur, and take down Lara in the process. Failing to do so in Tomb Raider Legend, she found another way to get in.

Following Lara to the Mediterranean Sea, Amanda sends a team of mercenaries after Lara who steal Thor's Gauntlet right after Lara uncovered it. Setting an explosive in the temple, the mercenary leader tells Lara that Amanda sends her regards before detonating it, this being Amanda's way of revenge against Lara - the same way Amanda was trapped in the Peruvian temple in Tomb Raider Legend.

Lara finds Amanda with Natla and after getting answers from the Atlantean queen, Lara escapes the ship and fires at Amanda, scoring a gash along her cheek from the bullet. Amanda threw the gauntlet into the water as it's no use to her now, but Lara retrieved it in time.

During Lara's adventure in Thailand, Amanda has Natla create her a doppelgänger, and sends it to Lara's manor in England to retrieve her Wraith Stone. Doing so, the doppelgänger reaches the manor just as Lara arrives and does some excavating in the Croft catacombs. Above ground, the deadly facsimile of Lara shoots Zip in the leg before blowing open the vault and stealing the stone, sending Croft Manor to flames. Finding Lara, the doppelgänger shoots Alister before fighting Lara, causing her to waste time so she couldn't save him.

The next time we see Amanda is in the Andaman Sea in Thailand on her second ship, the Tisiphone, the sister to the first. Lara climbs on board having recovered all four artifacts - Thor's two gauntlets, his belt, and his hammer, Mjolnir - and confronts Natla. Learning that only the Atlantean can open the doors to Helheim, Lara is about to smash the glass of the prison when Amanda and the doppelgänger come in. Amanda and Lara are poised to fight, but Lara's evil lookalike intervenes and throws Amanda over the railing into the depths below. On her way down, Amanda hits her head hard and tumbles the rest of the way - we'd presume she was dead.

In the Arctic Circle, Amanda follows Natla into Helheim just as Lara confronted her mother and listened in on their conversation. Hearing what Natla tells Lara, she becomes frustrated that she was so foolish as to let Natla use her for her own gain. As Natla leaves to raise the Midgard Serpent, the doppelgänger is about to kill Lara when Amanda uses the powers of the Wraith Stone to hurl the clone into Jormungandr's poison, killing it. Telling Lara that as much as she wanted to let the clone kill her, the Midgard Serpent will tear the world apart, and only Mjolnir can stop it. Despite Amanda's wanting to get to Avalon/Helheim, destroying the world was not her plan. All she wanted was knowledge.

As Lara disables the Midgard Serpent, Amanda holds off the endless wave of thralls. Falling off a five foot high ledge and landing on her leg, Amanda hurts it bad enough to have to limp. She continues to hold off thralls until Natla throws a fireball at her, the explosion sending Amanda flying forward. Landing hard, Amanda is knocked unconscious. After Lara kills Natla and destroys the machine, she helps Amanda up who tries to unblock the corridor, but the Wraith Stone was out of juice, just like in Bolivia in Tomb Raider Legend.

Making a remark that now the two of them were going to die in Helheim like Amelia, Lara raises her arm to punch Amanda but stops when she's struck with sudden realization. Finding the stone dais and the Excalibur sword stuck inside, Lara thought that her mother must have tried to use it, but didn't know how. Holding a section of the dais in place, Lara trusts Amanda to pull the sword out and grab Lara's hand in time to send them to safety. Amanda has mixed emotions and briefly thinks about leaving Lara there to exact her revenge, but pulls the sword out and grabs Lara's hand.

The two land in Nepal, where Amelia first pulled out the sword. Lara noticed that Amanda's stone was flaming with power, and asked if killing her would make them even. Amanda considered Lara's words before allowing the stone to dissipate and leaving the temple. It's currently unknown if Lara and Amanda will become friends again, or if this is the last we see of Amanda, if she chooses to drop out of Lara's life for good.
Von Croy's Apartment is a level in Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness.

Lara enters it a few days after Von Croy had been killed in there, to investigate. She want's to find information about the Obscura Paintings. She finds some stuff about The Sanglyph, the Cabal and the Lux Veritatis.

After collecting Werner's Jackal Walking Stick a guy, the Sweeper appears. He has been sent by Bouchard to eliminate Lara. When she returns fire, he will eventually flee outside, turning off the lasers at the apartment door for Lara.

There are also Lasers in the passage outside. Lara has to bellycrawl underneath those.

Information obtained in the level
By Von Croy's desk Lara finds information about the Lux Veritatis and

* THE LUX VERITATIS - Aha! Facts about the Lux Veritatis. They were a 12th century offshot of the Knights Templar. Dedicated to suppressing evil, ... particularly works of Sorcery and alchemy. Responsible for destroying Eckhardt, the Black Alchemist, in 1445. Or so it says here.

* THE SANGLYPH - There's information here on the Sanglyph. It says the Black Alchemist, Pieter Van Eckhardt, created an artifact of alchemic power, the Sanglyph. It was made in five metallic parts and hidden. Perhaps those where the metal symbols in the Obscura Paintings.

On the small table in the bedroom lies a book about the Cabal.

* THE CABAL - Let's see what we have on the Cabal... a powerful alliance of five alchemists and sorcerers in the 13 and 14oo's. Eckhard is said to have betrayed and murdered almost all of them to control their secrets. Now that IS interesting! It says the Cabal and the Lux Veritatis battled constantly even after the disappearance of the Black Alchemist Eckhardt in 1445.
When Lara arrives there, she bumps into a strange man who is just about to leave. Rennes is already dead. When she enters the vault to get her gear, a bomb is triggered and Lara narrowly escapes alive.

A strange smoking man, we later learn that his name is Kurtis Trent is sitting on a nearby jetty watching Lara.

After leaving the Parisian ghetto, Lara makes her way into the Louvre to continue Margot Carvier's work in finding an entrance to the Hall of Seasons, below the Louvre. There one of the Obscura Paintings had been hidden.

Her last stop in Paris is the Apartment of Werner von Croy. Where mercaneries slip in and try to eliminate her.
Summary
A series of grisly murders brings Lara into conflict with a sinister Alchemist from the past, and a secret alliance of powerful individuals shrouded in mystery. At the center of these mysteries are the Obscura Paintings - five 14th century pieces of art that the Alchemist is desperate to repossess. Accused of the murder of her one time mentor, Werner Von Croy, Lara becomes a fugitive on the run. Pursued by the police, she follows the Alchemist into a dark world of blood, betrayal and vengeance where it is up to her to defeat this unholy alliance, and stop them from unleashing their incredible powers on the world.
Introduction
Central National Bureau. Paris

REPORT ON RECENT SERIAL ATROCITIES WITHIN THE CAPITAL.

As yet no significant arrests have been made for this latest spate of 'Monstrum' killings in
the capital. Seventeen have been reported so far. A woman was seen leaving the apartment of the
latest victim, Professor Werner Von Croy. Described as Caucasian, brunette, about 1.8m and of
slim build, she was wearing jeans, denim jacket and a pony tail. She is dangerous and probably armed.
Officers are being advised to use extreme caution when apprehending the suspect.

The press have sensationalised this latest outbreak of killings as "The Monstrum's Dark Renaissance",
referring to similar atrocities in the capital over the last decade, and possibly as far back as the 1950's. There are definite links to atrocities in other European cities going back at least fifty years.

Forensics have made no headway regarding the bizarre metallic eruptions found on the bodies of all
victims. At present nothing appears to link any of the individuals involved. There have been significant numbers of casualties within Parisian gangland factions.

It would all appear to be the work of a single, highly psychotic perpetrator. The bodies were
desecrated and all crime scenes daubed with unintelligible graffiti, indicating some ritualistic
fixation. There are no known survivors of these attacks so far.

The suspect's apprehension should be made top priority...

But as the two tried to escape, Amanda set off a trap that sealed the room, brought down the roof, and drowned Amanda.

Toru Nishimura is a character from Tomb Raider Legend. He is a media mogul and ex-investigative reporter whom Lara rescued when he uncovered a plot involving a corrupt cabinet minister and an ancient artifact.

After Shogo Takamoto flees the party, Nishimura gives Lara the pass to a lift in order to go after Takamoto. He also helps her after Lara defeats Takamoto. Nishimura brings a helicopter and picks her up from the battle area. In the last cutscene of Japan, Lara calls Nishimura her "new favourite person."

Description from the official site
Toru Nishimura was once a daring investigative reporter who has crossed paths with Lara more than once on dangerous investigations. He's now a wealthy media mogul, good-humored and comfortable, but he still has a taste for adventure and risk, and he is always glad to see Lara whenever her latest adventure brings her to town. He's a little more cautious now, though - he's got responsibilities and obligations, some of them a bit unsavory - and as such, he needs to have good relations with the Japanese mafia.
Description from the official site
James Rutland Jr. grew up in a bubble of enormous wealth and privilege. He went to West Point and managed to graduate on his own merits, barely. As hard as it was, he's glad for it, because it gave him a sense of self-discipline and strength that he finds useful now that he's free of the military. He's a charismatic man accustomed to getting whatever he wants; however, this time the object of his desire is also sought by Lara Croft.
